Biographical Information
Tom
was born in Hinsdale Hospital on November 1st, 1982 to Linda and Tom
Mathews. He was followed closely by his twin sister, Thera. Tom grew up
in Lockport (now Homer Glen) which is a southwest suburb of Chicago
near Joilet. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grade School for his K-8
education. During high school at Joliet Catholic Academy, Tom had one
unsuccessful year as third string fullback, three successful years in
Science club, and 4 successful years as an honor student. Tom attended
Valparaiso University from 2001 to 2005 as a double major in Political
Science and Communication Law. After a brief stint in the minor leagues
of the corporate legal world, Tom decided to forgo his law degree and
instead pursue a Master's degree in a field that had up to that point
only been a hobby: Computer Science.
Tom did not meet his bride-to-be until three years
after his graduation
Tom Learns to Fit In With the New Family
from Valparaiso University. Many would say that this fact saved their relationship
before it even began given that Tom's more youthful attitudes towards life and
personal hygiene during these years would not have appealed to Katie. Tom now
lives on the south side of Chicago in the neighborhood of Bridgeport and derives minor enjoyment when riding Chicago
Transportation Authority buses and trains. He works for comScore in Chicago as a data analyst and is putting his Master’s
in database systems from DePaul Univeristy to good use by spending his waking hours poring over SQL
programming and creating dashboard reports for banks and credit card companies.
In other words, he does computer stuff. He works for Noble Network of Charter Schools in Chicago as the manager of data integration and analysis. He is putting his Master’s
in database systems from DePaul Univeristy to good use by spending his waking hours poring over SQL
programming and creating dashboard reports for the ten high school campuses in the network.
In other words, he does computer stuff. He’s
also learning to brew his own beer via the guidance of master brewers Steven
and Loxie Rajki. Aside from that, Tom has completed his New Year’s resolution
to read 25 books, continues to obsess over independent film & music, and
flies to Connecticut every few weeks to visit Katie.
Katie will agree that Tom is pretty exciting to be around.
